Where It All Began

Founded in 1976 by William J. Canning, Canning Management Group (CMG) began as an affordable housing developer in Providence, RI developing and managing over 1,000 apartments. The company grew to be a fully integrated multifamily real estate company that excels in the management of affordable and conventional housing. While CMG has developed, acquired and managed affordable housing communities for its own portfolio, we have brought that extensive experience to third-party property and asset management.

It is said behind every successful man and company there is a great woman. This is certainly true of our founder and the Canning Management Group. Linda May Canning, the founder’s wife of over 50 years, provided the foundation of support, faith and love for him and the company to succeed.

What We Do &
How We Do It

Professional property and asset management for both our owned and third-party owned multifamily properties sits at the heart of everything we do. First and foremost, our partners work with us to define their unique management goals, along with a comprehensive plan to execute on them, for each one of their assets.

We believe that our teams of on-site staff are the critical pieces for the successful growth of any property. Our staff attends training and seminars both locally and nationally, far exceeding the status quo. With this in mind, CMG relies on the wide range of technical knowledge, skill, and expertise possessed by our employees.

CMG assigns a highly qualified manager to each building as a primary contact who is supported by the principals of CMG, the Senior Executive Team, and a team of specialists ensuring that all facets of operational and financial management are covered. At each of the properties we manage, every employee, from our property managers to maintenance teams, is dedicated to providing best-in-class service.

Our management team is trained to think like an owner and take fulfillment in resident satisfaction.  We strive to deliver the best possible living experience to every resident in every community we manage while maximizing operating efficiencies, conserving resources and fundamentally increasing the value of the properties we manage.

CMG maintains memberships connected to the real estate and property management industry including The Institute of Real Estate Management, Rhode Island Builders Association, New England Affordable Housing Management Association, National Leased Housing and The National Center of Housing Management.
